A militant attack on Mansehra and Balakot Police stations has left SHO dead while 9 others including 5 police officials were wounded. Police Officials have confirmed that the SHO of the Balakot police station, Khalil Khan has lost his life when a suicide bomber blew himself up. The injured including Hawaldar Muhammad Huyumun, Gul Nawaz, Moharrar Muhammad Hanif while civilians identified as Ruktaj Bibi, Rashid Khan, Kalim Ullah and Haroon. A suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of a police station building in Mansehra district, local police officer Gul Zarin told reporters. The head and legs of suicide bomber were found from the site and investigation has been started. The first attack took place at around nine thirty this morning as militants lobbed grenades and opened fire on both police stations. One of the terrorists who conducted the attack on the Mansehra police station has also been killed. The assault on both the police stations took place within a span of 15 minutes. Policemen on duty opened fire, killing one of the terrorists while the rest managed to flee, said a police officer. A hunt has been launched to capture the other attacker. The injured in the two blasts have been shifted to the hospitals. Police have put security cordon around the two police stations. Balakot police station was housed in a makeshift shanty after its building was ravaged in a devastating earthquake. The injured police have been shifted to Civil police station. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the suicide attacks on police stations in Balakot and Mansehra that resulted in loss of precious lives. Both leaders expressed his grief over the loss of lives of policemen and citizens. President said the government and people are determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism from society. Prime Minister Said the terrorists who committed such ghastly acts will not go unpunished. They prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude. The President and the Prime Minister have sought inquiry report from NWFP Government. Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik also condemned the blasts and sought the report from the provincial government.
