CHICHAWATNI (APP) Six persons including a constable were killed and two others injured in a crossfire between police and criminals at judicial lock-up in local courts premises on Wednesday. According to police, some prisoners including a notorious dacoit Nazar Labana were being brought back to Sahiwal jail after attending the hearing of their cases on a police van when some assailants opened fire by scaling the boundary wall. The police retaliated and during the shootout a cop, a detained person in lock-up and three assailants died on the spot while a head constable and an assailant received bullet injuries and they were shifted to THQ hospital. In the meantime, Nazar Labana threw chillies in the eyes of police guard and escaped in police van after breaking the gate of Tehsil Kutchery. Later, he abandoned the vehicle and took shelter in a home at Ahmadnagar. The policy party encircled the house where Nazar Labana also died in an hour-long crossfire. Police said, some prisoners, taking advantage of the situation also fled and raids are being conducted for their arrest. One of the criminals who died in the encounter was identified as PO Ali Sher.
