5 militants killed in botched attack on mly training centre

MARDAN Security forces, Tuesday, foiled a terror bid and killed five militants including three suicide bombers when they attacked a military training central, Punjab Regiment Centre (PRC) Mardan. In exchange of fire with militants, four soldiers also got seriously injured. According to details, the incident took place early in the morning at around 5:45 am when the recruits of the security force were busy in training at the PRC located at Mardan Malakand Road a busy route linking Mardan with Malaknad, Swat, Swabi, Charsadda, Peshawar and other areas. At least five militants including three suicide bombers jumped over the wall of PRC from the west and the southern sides and tried to enter the training centre and blew themselves in training ground. They wanted to killed the recruits busy in training but the security men who were performing duties at that time started firing on them and killed the suicide bombers and other militants and did not let them succeed in entering the ground. Sources told that hundreds of recruits were busy at that time in their routine training. Sources further told that suicide bombers and militants also started firing on security forces. As a result four soldiers were wounded. They have been identified as Asim Shahzad, Kaleem Masih, Rafiq and Sikander. The wounded soldiers were shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Mardan where their condition is to be reported out of danger while security force took the dead bodies of militants in their custody. Three huge blasts were also heard during the operation. Several houses of the adjacent areas were also badly damaged due to the severity of the blast. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks. Militants have been active in the area and carried out several attacks on the government and the military targets in the past but for the last few months militants did not succeed in their activities and it was the first big success on part of the security forces with regard to foiling the terror bid. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mardan Syed Akhtar Ali Shah while talking to the media persons said that militants wanted to enter the training centre and blow themselves up and kill recruits but the security forces timely action prevented the heavy loss of lives. He said that the dead bodies of the militants were badly disfigured and it was difficult to identify them. He said that an ID card recovered from the pocket of one of the suicide bombers. He said that security was red alert in the area and search operation continued in the surrounding areas and several suspicious people were arrested.
