Another body formed to probe PSM irregularities

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has constituted another three-member committee headed by Senator Haroon Khan to look into financial irregularities amounting to Rs22 billion in Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM). Official sources informed TheNation Tuesday the newly formed committee would interrogate officials allegedly involved in the embezzlement with collusion of sacked Chairman of the PSM, Moeen Aftab. The PM directed the committee chairman to immediately start inquiry into the matter as he would call first meeting of the committee in a couple of days with the members including Senator Gul M Lat and Senator Adnan. The govt has directed the General Manager of PSM to provide the accounts details to the committee while Additional Secretary Ministry of Industries and Production would assist them in the investigation. Earlier, a committee had been constituted to investigate into the issue under the direct supervision of Chairman Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation. The committee submitted its report within a week, which held Moeen Aftab responsible for the corruption in the PSM. On the recommendation of the committee, Moeen Aftab was shown the door but at the same time the Chairman Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation, who had given the findings of corruption against the Chairman Steel Mills came under clouds and was demoted from his post by Federal Minister for Industries and Production Mian Manzoor Wattoo. Wattoo expressed his dissatisfaction over the report and that was why another committee comprising Senators was constituted to look into the matter afresh.
