MQM demands swift justice in killings case

KARACHI Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has demanded of the government to take immediate steps to arrest those culprits who have been identified in killings in Shershah junk market and bring them to justice. Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at nine zero, the party headquarter here on Wednesday, Deputy Coordinator Committee of MQM Dr. Farooq Sattar said that killing in Shershah was carried out in a planned manner and the criminals had carried out reccy of the shops and the areas before they launched their ghastly attack in which 12 innocent daily wage earners and shop owners were killed. The attackers moved with impunity and kept on firing for a long time without any resistance from the law enforcers, he added. Flanked by other party leaders, Dr. Farooq Sattar said that the shopkeepers and labourers in the junk market who hid in their shops and pulled down their shutters to save their lives were dragged out and mercilessly killed. He said the victims and the eyewitnesses have identified the gangsters and the MQM demanded that all those identified should be arrested. He said not only the peace loving citizens of Karachi but all over Pakistan were demanding that justice should be done and the culprits should be apprehended. The MQM from time to time and particularly during the last four days were repeatedly reminding the authorities about the well planned conspiracy under which the recent killings were carried out, he said. Dr. Sattar said the MQM had informed the President, the Prime Minister, Federal Interior Minister and the Provincial Home Minister with confirmed identification of the people and the factions that had planned and carried out this conspiracy to mercilessly kill the innocent citizens without sparing any person. Dr. Farooq Sattar said that it was high time for the President, the Prime Minister, and Federal Interior Minister to take action so that peace could be restored and culprits could be brought to justice and punished. It was time to heal the wounds and to compensate those who had lost their businesses and valuable lives, he demanded. The MQM, he said, would cooperate and give full assistance to measures and steps taken by the government to control the deteriorating law and order in the city, which is a business and commercial hub of the country. The MQM Chief Altaf Hussain had already advised its cadres to remain calm and to cooperate in the restoration of peace in the metropolis, he added. He said the MQM had not taken any measure when five of its activists were kidnapped, tortured, and killed and their dead bodies were thrown in various areas of the city with the hope that the authorities would move to arrest those responsible. He said the MQM had always been against ethnic and sectarian prejudices and had given its cooperation to maintain peace in the city irrespective of provocation from various criminal elements.
