Solution of Kashmir Issue is key to Peace in the Region: Barrister Sultan

Former Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mahmood has stated that peace in the South Asian Region is linked to the solution of Kashmir issue and the world community should play its role to bring all the stake holders around one table to find out a solution that manifest the aspiration of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He was speaking at a Round Table Discussion on Kashmir A Conflict Worse than Afghanistan, organized by the German Pakistan Forum here today. Barrister Sultan Mahmood said that the recent phase of resentment, anger, and struggle in the Indian Kashmir was totally indigenous. It speaks volumes about the frustration and the conditions under which the people of Kashmir are living under the occupied Indian forces, he added. He urged the Indian government to immediately withdraw troops from the cities of Kashmir, withdraw all the draconian and black laws, release all the political prisoners and allow the Kashmiri leaders to travel abroad. He said that intera-Kashmir dialogue should be initiated to find an amicable solution of the long outstanding issue. He said that the economic glittering in India should not blind anyone from the sacrifices of Kashmiri people. He urged the European communities to take notice of the human rights violations in the Indian held Kashmir and put pressure on India for early solution of this issue. One of the participants belonging to Indian Kashmir, Dr. Manzoor described the condition of the people during his recent visit to the valley. He said that the life in valley has totally been shattered and people are living in miserable conditions. During his two months stay he could go out only twice and a marriage ceremony in the family has to be cancelled due to worse law and order situation. People of Kashmir only want to breathe in a free atmosphere, he concluded.
