Woman killed in Indian forces' fire

SIALKOT A woman was killed early Monday morning when Indian Border Security Force (BSF) opened indiscriminate fire at village Surragpur in Chaprar Sector of Sialkot Working Boundary. The Indian forces targeted the border village at 4am, as the firing continued for half an hour, injuring Sadia Bibi (32) seriously who was offering Fajar prayers at the roof of her house. She was shifted to Sialkot Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where she succumbed to her wounds. Meanwhile, the Chenab Rangers retaliated effectively as the crossfire created panic in the area. AFP adds: India accused Pakistan of violating ceasefire along the de facto border in disputed Kashmir just days before top foreign ministry officials of the two nations are due to meet in Islamabad. Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao will meet her Pakistani counterpart Salman Bashir on Thursday as the two nations look to build on a recent thaw in relations to revive their stalled peace process. On Sunday, two civilian porters working for the Indian army were killed and two soldiers injured in 'unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LOC), Indian military spokesman Vineet Sood told AFP. He accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire that has been in force along the LOC since 2003 in northern Machil Sector. Fresh firing across the border was also Monday in the southern sector of Rambhir Singh Pora, officials from the BSF told a group of visiting journalists.
