ISLAMABAD - Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar has said there is a large number of Pakistanis in Libya and Pakistan is mindful of their safety and security. Our Embassy in Tripoli and the Special Task Force in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working round the clock to ensure the safety of our nationals. The Government of Pakistan has so far, arranged evacuation of more than 5,000 Pakistanis from Libya, she said in a statement issued on Monday. It is worth mentioning here that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to secure safe repatriation of majority of registered Pakistani expatriates as many have been pointing their fingers over the delay and the apathy of the ministry in launching its operations in time. Khar said that principles of respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of states must be respected in Libya. It is imperative that all the concerned respect in letter and spirit the humanitarian norms, she said in a statement that offered nothing but a mere lip service to the ordeal of thousands of Pakistani expatriates living in extreme distress in the war-ridden African Arab nation. She said Pakistan always upheld the principles of respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of states as well as the principles of non-intervention in internal affairs. These principles are universal and must be respected in Libya, she said, adding that it was very important that all sides adhered to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
