Reshuffle in Army on the cards

ISLAMABAD - A major administrative reshuffle in the Pakistan Army is on the cards with at least two Corps Commanders, including Corps Commander Gujranwala, Lt Gen Waseem Ahmed Ashraf are among the few three star generals likely to retire next month, TheNation learnt from well-placed sources on Monday. It was not immediately known as to how many senior officers were exactly retiring. However, informed sources dropped hints that there were from six to eight officers whose retirement was either due or were attaining superannuation on the same date. Prominent among those who are likely to retire from their service are Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt Gen Salahuddin Satti and Military Secretary GHQ, Lt Gen Muhammad Sabir. It could not be confirmed but informed sources said that 10th Corps Commander Lt Gen Mohsin Kamal had also sought to be relieved of  his services from the General Headquarters for personal reasons. Sources further said that Ministry of Defence would issue posting and transfer orders to fill these vacant positions not before the due date of their retirement. It was further learnt that most of the retiring officers are those posted by the Ex-Chief of Army Staff General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf. The sources further said that at least seven Corps Commanders are being replaced with new three star generals the incumbent COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had selected and their postings would take effect immediately after the return of the COAS from his China visit.   However, official sources dismissed these reports as mere speculation. The Army Promotion Board that met recently under the chairmanship of incumbent Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had promoted twenty-five Brigadiers to the rank of Major Generals.
