Suicide attack kills nine troops

SWAT - Security forces Monday killed more than 30 Taliban-linked militants in different clashes in the troubled northwest of the country bordering Afghanistan, police and security officials said. One soldier and a policeman also died during clashes with militants. At least nine troops were killed while several others got injured when an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into the main gate of Madyan Grid Station, Swat, on Monday. The security forces had set up their check post there. "It was a car bomb blast," said an official on the condition of anonymity. Nine people were killed and several were injured in the blast, while the bomber was blown to pieces, he said. Meanwhile, thousands of people here at Allabad, Khawazakhela, protested against the killing of two kids along with their mother during the shelling of security forces on the suspected hideouts of Taliban militants. According to details, about twenty thousand protestors chanting anti-government slogans came on the roads at Allabad, Khawazakhela, when a mortar shell hit the house of Fazal Rabi and killed his wife and two children. The enraged people headed towards Circuit House Karachi Grounding, some 13 kilometres away from Khawazakhela, and protested against the incident while carrying the dead bodies of both the dead kids. The security forces used teargas to disperse the protestors, which caused injuries to many people. The security forces have declared curfew throughout the Swat district for an unspecified timeframe. The house of Nazim Nangulai, Captain (Retd) Sher Abdul Khan, damaged when a mortar shell hit it. Meanwhile, fresh clashes between Taliban and the security forces claimed at least 16 lives at Peer Qala near Shabqadar, Mohmand Agency, police sources said. According to details, Charsadda Peace Committee held a rally, led by Chairman Younas Khan. When the participants of the rally were dispersing peacefully, some armed militants opened fire on a police officer and as a result one of the CID constables died and five other officials injured. The security forces retaliated strongly and as a result 15 militants were killed. Meanwhile, addressing the peace rally, Chairman of the Charsadda Peace Committee Younas Khan alleged that the militants were sabotaging the peace of the area as they get money from anti-state elements. He also said that the militants were creating law and order situation on the US instigation. He further said that militants must fight either in Afghanistan or Kashmir, if they were really sincere in Jehad. Meanwhile, in Darra Adamkhel, security forces during operation against militants killed 10 and arrested 28 others from Abbas Chowk and Sikha Khel. A personnel of security forces was killed while another injured when their vehicle hit a landmine in Darra Adamkhel. Meanwhile, five militants were killed and eight others injured in an operation by security forces in the Bajaur Agency. Official sources said the security forces targeted the hideouts of the militants in tehsil Khar and Mamoond with artillery, mortar guns and other heavy weapons and destroyed them. Meanwhile, the security forces advanced five kilometres away from the Loi Sum, a stronghold of militants. The security forces have also started a search operation in Tang Khata, Rashkai, Khazana and Keralla and recovered huge quantity of weapons and explosives.
