Nawaz-Pagara meeting unlikely

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) remains oblivious to the efforts to bring various factions of Muslim League under the platform of All Pakistan Mutahidda Muslim League (APMML) to be headed by Pir Pagara. Reliable party sources privy to these developments informed TheNation on Sunday that there were no signs of any meeting between Pir Sahib and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif who had returned from his foreign visit. However, the supporters of unification including PML-Q Likeminded, Awami Muslim League and PML (Zia) under the APMML were upbeat that both the leaders could meet anytime. Some of them believed that contacts between Pir Sahib and the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had been established through Ejaz-ul-Haq and more efforts would be made to materialise the potential meeting. In a related development, it was further learnt that PML-Q was also not participating in the APMML meeting to be held on October 28 in Lahore. According to the informed sources, there is a possibility that efforts for unification may not bear fruits as none of major factions including the PML-N and PML-Q are unlikely to participate in any of the meetings. They were of the view that both the parties were in contact to further enhance their cooperation in the Parliament after the important meeting of Senator SM Zafar and Senator Tariq Azeem with PML-N key leader and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif recently in Lahore. Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also attended the meeting.
