Violence again grips Karachi; five dead

KARACHI Target killing resumed in the metropolis after a gap as violence and claimed four more lives including former activist of Sunni Tehrik (ST) and two Bengali men in different parts of the city on Sunday. According to details, in the first incident, former activist of ST was gunned down near his house situated at Bohra Pir in the limits of Risala police station. The victim, 29-year-old Kamran son of Ehsan Elahi, was sitting outside his house Chona Bhatti Compound near Siddique Mosque Bohra Pir, when two armed men reached there on motorcycle and opened fire on him. He sustained two bullets on his chest and died after a few moments. Police shifted his body to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for legal formalities. SHO Tariq Emran said the victim was the resident of the same area where the incident took place; he was the former activist of ST and driver by profession. The SHO said according to the victims family he had no enmity with anyone. However, police registered an FIR against the unidentified men on the complaint of victim brother Irfan and initiated to probe the case. In another incident, a garments trader was shot dead near his house in the incident of target killing in Gulshan Iqbal within the limits of Aziz Bhatti police station. The victim was later identified as 45-year-old Imran Khan, son of Ghulam Hussain resident of block 13-B Gulshan Iqbal. He was standing near his house, when unidentified men reached there on a Parado Jeep and sprayed bullets on him, resultantly he sustained wounds. The culprits escaped the scene. Police shifted him into Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) where he succumbed to his wounds during the treatment. According to the police officials, the victim used to run a garments shop in Tariq Road and was father of two children. Police believed that personal enmity was behind the incident. However, police registered the case and further investigation was in process. Separately police found a bullet-riddled body of a man of Benagli origin near Korangi 100 Quarter in the jurisdiction of Zaman Town police station. The victim was identified as Abdullah, 28, son of Sona Bengali was the resident of Ali Akbar Shah Goth Ibrahim Hyderi. According to the police officials, the victim was kidnapped and after his murder culprits threw his body in Korangi 100 quarter. SHO Atif Shah said that the area people informed the police about the body which after receiving information found his body and shifted it to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for postmortem and later handed it over to his heirs. The officer said victim had several cases of crimes in different police station and had some dispute with notorious gangsters Alam Bengali group and might be that group involved in the murder of Abdullah. No case was registered till filing of the report. In another incident another Bengali man was shot dead in his house situated at Kausar Niazi Colony in North Nazimabad police station precincts. According to the police officials three unidentified armed men covering their faces barged into the house in the wee hours Sunday and fired at him from point blank, resultantly the 42-eyar-old Ayub Bengali son of Shahid Bengali died on the spot. Police said that he was a labourer and was working in garment factory situated in New Karachi Industrial Area. Police said the victims family quoted that he had no enmity with some one. Police registered an FIR No 940/10 on the complaint of victims son namely Tanveer against unidentified men and initiated to probe the case. Meanwhile, in yet another incident, a man was gunned down near Bijli Ground in the limits of Jamshaid Quarter Police Station. The deceased was later identified as Arshad, 38, Alias Cheeta, son of Mian Arshad. He was resident of the same area and was on his way to home when two unidentified persons arrived omn a motorbike and shot him dead.
