LAHORE Criticising the governments decision to give India the Most-Favoured Nation (MFN) status and putting the Kashmir issue on back burner, the participants of Pakistan Defence Conference declared on Monday that the people of the country will never accept Indias hegemony in the region. The conference demanded of the Supreme Court to take suo moto action against drone attacks and appealed to the Pakistan Army to rebuild its image among the masses. Pakistan Defence Council organised the conference at a local hotel here on Monday. Leaders and representatives of countrywide political and religious parties participated. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (S) Chief Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, in his welcome address, said that the enemies wanted to wage war on Pakistan and to destroy its atomic assets. He said the people were asking the government that why it was reluctant to implement the resolutions and decisions adopted by All Parties Conference. Maulana was of the view that imperialist forces had been conspiring to weak the ideology and economy of the country by turning it into a secular state totally dependent on the loans of international agencies. Madaris (religious schools) and Jihad were being targeted and NGOs were being promoted, Sami regretted. In this situation, he said, the need was to be united and give the enemy a clear message that any aggression against the country would be dealt with sternly. Former ISI head Lieutenant General (r) Hamid Gul held that America would not dare to attack Pakistan directly, instead, he added, it would prefer to divide the people and deprive the country of atomic capabilities through hatching conspiracies. After facing defeat in Afghanistan, the US now wants safe withdrawal from the neighbouring Muslim country, said the defence expert. He predicted that Obama would present himself as a man of peace in the next US election. So, according to Mr Gul, They want safe withdrawal from Afghanistan by shouldering the responsibility of defeat on Pakistan. Establishment of Indias hegemony in the region, imposition of a western democracy on Afghanistan and setting up of a mixed Talban and pro American government in Afghanistan were the ill-plans of Washington, said Hamid Gul. People of Pakistan have to play a vital role in this situation and they should give a clear message of unity to their enemies, he stressed. Mr Gul said the solidarity among the countrymen was the need of the hour. Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan was of the view that with rulers in power, the defence of Pakistan would remain in danger. The government has lost its credibility to rule over 180 million people, Munawar said. He urged the people to be ready for Jihad against America as, according to him, the American and Pakistani objectives in the region were totally different from each other. Jamaat-ud-Dawa ameer Hafiz Muhammad Saeed pointed out that the countrys eastern border was insecure as America was provoking India to attack on Pakistan. In the circumstances when Indian forces are killing innocent Kashmiris and ready for aggression against Pakistan, our government is in rush to give MFN status to India, he said. He held that all the suicide attacks in Pakistan were the results of American drone attacks in the country. Give a shut up call to American forces on drone attacks, results would be visible in Pakistan, Saeed asked the government. Speaking on the occasion, Awami Muslim League President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed question, We are with the army, but if the army is also with us. Criticising the government on many issues and stressing on the need to get rid of the rulers, he disclosed that it was not Pervez Musharraf but the present government who allowed open window to America for drone attacks. In front of so many religious scholars here, I am telling you that present government accepted Dick Cheneys formula of drone attacks, held Sheikh Rashid. PML-Z chief Ijazul Haq, Maulana Ahmed Ludhyanvi, PML-Q leader Ch Zaheer-ud-Din, Religious Scholar Syed Ata-ul-Momin Bokhari, Jamia-tul-Muntazar Principal Hafiz Riaz Najfi, Tanzeem-e-Islami Amir Hafiz Akif Saeed, representatives Wafaqul Madaris, MQM-Haqiqi, Christians, Sikh and Hindu delegations and representatives of other political parties attended the conference and expressed their views regarding the issues and threats faced by the country. A unanimous declaration was adopted by the participants and it was announced that the councils next meeting will be held at Islamabad after Eid-ul-Azha.
