'Attack on PM feared'

LAW-enforcement agencies have been directed through an official document to beef up security of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, reported BBC on Thursday. The document expressed fear of terrorist attack on the Prime Minister which could be in the form of a blast, suicide attack or indiscriminate firing.The official instrument issued by the Interior Ministry has been brought to the knowledge of the incharge security affairs of the President House, Military Secretary to the Prime Minister and the law-enforcement agencies. It may be mentioned here that Prime Ministers car was fired at Islamabad highway last year, but the PM was not in the car at that time. Islamabad police has failed to arrest anyone in this regared. The government is purchasing the latest and sophisticated equipment from the US and the European countries aiming to guarantee the security of important persons, sources in the Interior Ministry said, adding that talks are going on with companies of different countries. The Ministry has sent a list to the Finance Ministry in this regard. According to the government statistics 59 vehicles, including 28 bulletproof vehicles, were purchased during the last four years at a cost of Rs 2 billion. As per information furnished to the govt by the intelligence institutions, TTP terrorists have transported huge arms and ammunition to their secret havens around Islamabad.
