PESHAWAR - The intelligence agencies have warned of possible terror attacks in Peshawar bazaars, which are jam packed ahead of the Eid festival. In a report sent to the govt, the law enforcement agencies have declared all bazaars in Cantonment, Meena Bazaar, Kochi Bazaar, Shaheen Bazaar as sensitive and could be targeted by terrorists due to massive rush of women shoppers ahead of Eid. These markets are popular among women although there is no restriction on entry of male shoppers, however, these bazaars are mostly full of females for shopping on the special occasions like Eid. Since all these three markets are closer to each other, any blast or terror attack is feared to cause huge human losses as well as property due to narrow lanes in these bazaars where rescue teams find it difficult to carry on activities smoothly. In the wake of this report the authorities have decided to block entry of males into these bazaars during the last ten days of Ramazan, besides deploying women police for strict checking of female shoppers. Jhanda Bazaar, Hashtnagri, Railway Phatak and University Town bazaars are also included in the sensitive areas list and the concerned CCPO, SSP Operations Peshawar, SP City and SP Cantt have been asked to make all possible security measures for dealing with any untoward incident. In October last a suicide attack in Meena Bazaar Peshawar had killed more than 120 people mostly women and children.
