Six dead in Balochistan violence

QUETTA - Six people, including a woman, were killed and 17 wounded, five of them security personnel, in firing and landmine blast incidents in different towns of Balochistan on Tuesday. Sources said unidentified armed men opened fire on the vehicle of Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP) when it was passing from Dringar area. As a result, Umal Al-Raqib, Mastung region training officer, and Shahzaib, driver, died on the spot. Sources said the victims were returning to Quetta after holding a training workshop in the outskirts of Dringar. The assailants escaped from the site after committing the crime. The bodies were later handed over to their heirs; however, motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained. In another incident, two people, including a woman, were killed in Mastung district, some 60km south of Quetta. In Dera Bugti, five security personnel sustained serious injuries when their vehicle rolled on an anti-tank landmine. Sources said the security forces were carrying ration in Loti area when their vehicle hit a landmine laid by militants. The condition of three wounded persons is stated to be serious. The vehicle was also badly damaged in the blast. According to sources, four people were killed and 12 other wounded in Chattar town of Naseerabad district when an armed clash erupted between Mengal and Kahari tribes over a piece of land. Both groups attacked their targets with modern weapons, including rocket launchers. Two vehicles were also destroyed in the attack. However, the number of causalities could not be confirmed from official sources. Commissioner Naseerabad Division Muhammad Aslam Jamali said Frontier Corps personnel had reached Chattar to prevent the clash.
