Pakistan, Malaysia vow to boost defence ties

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and Malaysia on Tuesday reiterated their commitment to further enhance and reinforce defence cooperation for the mutual benefits of the two countries. Both the countries reviewed the bilateral cooperation at the two meetings of high-level Malaysian defence delegation, currently visiting Pakistan, with Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani as well as Secretary Defence, Lt. Gen (r) Syed Athar Ali separately. In its meeting with General Kayani at GHQ, Malaysian defence delegation led by the Secretary General of Ministry of Defence of Malaysia, Mr Dato Sri Abu Bakar Bin Haji Abdullah discussed the matters of mutual interest. During the meeting held between the Secretary Defence and the delegation, both sides agreed to promote industrial defence cooperation between the two countries. It was also emphasised that the defence ties should be enhanced and new avenues should be explored, as there was a vast scope for cooperation in the area of defence. The meeting agreed to increase interaction between the Armed Forces of the two countries and enhance cooperation in the area of military training. The Secretary Defence highlighted the capability of the Defence Industry of Pakistan. He informed the delegation that Pakistan had achieved self-reliance in the field of defence.
