NRO beneficiaries should resign: JI

ISLAMABAD Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Syed Munawar Hassan said on Wednesday that it was moral and constitutional obligation that beneficiaries of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) including President Asif Ali Zardari and Interior Minister Rehman Malik should tender their resignations so that independent enquiry could be initiated against them. He said due to irrational policies of NRO beneficiary rulers, besides massive corruption and irregularities, malicious American and Indian interventions in the countrys affairs had increased manifold. Those sitting in the helm of affairs are directly responsible for current deteriorating law and order situation in the country, he added. Addressing Students Convention and 'Go America Go rally, organised by Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) Punjab chapter, JI Amir said that before presenting Balochistan Package, it was mandatory for the incumbent government to take concrete steps to minimise miseries of Baloch people. A number of reports and packages were also prepared in the past but due to ill intentions of the rulers could not be implemented, he said adding that JI would not accept the package until people of Balochistan, real stakeholders, accept it. He also demanded release of thousands of missing persons, who are in the custody of secrete agencies, to build trust of the Baloch people on the system. He regretted that 150 women were also included in the list of missing persons. Munawar Hassan said that during recent visit of the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Pakistan, notorious Blackwater provided security to her instead of local security agencies, which was a shameful act in the history of the country. A terrorist US organisation is operating independently in a sovereign country, he said adding that after suffering defeat in Afghan war now the US had shifted war into Pakistan to destabilise it. The presence of secret US and Indian agencies in the country has endangered our nuclear assets, he claimed. Accusing India of its involvement in tribal areas of Pakistan, he said the government had a solid proof of Indian involvement in tribal belt but still the rulers were reluctant to protest with India on diplomatic front. He said military operation was not the only option in tribal areas. The government must resume dialogue. America wants to engage our military against our own people in tribal areas, which is unfair, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Atiq-ur-Rehman, Nazim IJT, said that students throughout the country would stand together to make futile all attempts to destabilise the county. He urged the government to enforce parallel education, curriculum and language system in the country and stop the American intervention in educational institutions of the country. He also demanded to hold election of student unions. Naib Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Main Aslam, Nazim IJT Punjab chapter Zubair Safdar and Nazim IJT NWFP Gulfaraz Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
