Zardari for Pak-Iran strategy to fight terror

ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari Sunday urged Iran to evolve a joint strategy for countering terrorism in the region through enhanced intelligence sharing and bilateral cooperation in law enforcement. Talking to visiting Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Muhammad Najjar, the President said that the whole region was facing a common enemy of militancy and called for a joint strategy and cooperation to curb violent extremism. Offering condolences and sympathies to the government and people of Iran for the loss of precious lives in suicide attack in Sistan province, he assured that Pakistan would extend all possible cooperation to help track down and punish the terrorists behind the Sistan attack. The President termed terrorism as a crime against humanity. The President called for more coordinated intelligence cooperation between the two countries to avert efforts of those who sought to create misgivings between the two countries. He said people involved in the heinous terrorist attacks like Sistan were enemies of Pakistan and Iran and did not want relations between both countries to flourish. He said such incidents should not be allowed to cast their shadow on the friendly relations existing between Pakistan and Iran. The President while appreciating Irans contribution of $330 million at the Friends of Democratic Pakistan Forum said that Pakistan highly valued its close brotherly ties with Iran. The Iranian Interior Minister thanked the President for Pakistans offer of cooperation to track down the terrorists.
