Saudi Arabia steps in to cool down US-Pak tension, ISI Chief dashes to Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has stepped in to cool down tension between Pakistan and the United States. On the special directive of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Saudi intelligence officials dashed to Pakistan andheld wide ranging interaction with ISI Chief General Ahmad Shuja Pasha and other concerned officials. Both the sides exchanged views on the ongoing acrimony and tension in relations between Pakistan and the United States on Haqqani network. After the meeting ISI Chief dashed to Saudi Arabia by a special plane. He is expected to hold meetings with heads of Saudi Intelligence and armed forces. The sources said that General Pasha proceeded to Saudi Arabia on the directive of the political and military leadership because the Kingdom is a very close ally of Pakistan and had in the past helped it come out of several crises. Analysts said that Pakistan is taking into confidence all its friends about the evolving situation. In this connection they referred to the visit of the Chinese Vice Prime Minister to Pakistan. They said that Saudi Arabia enjoys great influence in the US and Pakistani leadership and is likely to persuade both the countries to resolve the issue through dialogue rather than going to the extreme end.
