Gilani vows to protect '73 constitution

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Sunday assured the nation that the 1973 Constitution would be restored to its original form and the present government would take all measures to strengthen the federation by adopting political reconciliation. Talking to media here after offereing fateha here at the mausoleum of Shaheed leader Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the prime minister said that best way to pay respects to the great leader was to carry forward the mission undertaken by her and her late father Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto shaheed. He said the Bhutto families had laid down their lives for democracy and to empower the people and vowed that these will not go waste. The prime minister said the whole world, the nation, the civil society and the media supports democracy in Pakistan and the government would ensure that it is further strengthened. He expressed his firm determination to carry forward the mission of the PPP leaders by taking along all the political forces of the country. He said under the prevailing situation it was all the more necessary that all political forces stand together to take the country forward. He said the day that coincides with the 9th Muharram reminds of the sacrifices rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) for their faith and religion and set an example that needs to be emulated. The prime minister announced that Garhi Khuda Bux would be transformed into a model village and set up a committee to forward him its recommendations. Earlier the prime minister accompanied by Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah and Ministers Qamar Zaman Kaira, Rehman Malik, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Babar Awan laid a floral wreath and showered flower petals over her grave and offeref fateha.
