Kidnapping mystery remains unresolved

ISLAMABAD - Kidnapping mystery of teenage girl Nadia Mushtaq of Rawalpindi remained unresolved on Monday when a recovered woman Amina informed a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) that she was unaware of Nadia Mushtaq during her captivity in Sindh. During hearing of the case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was informed that a number of girls/women were still in custody of Sindhi abductors, especially in Nawabashah district. A three-member SC bench was hearing a suo motu case regarding abduction of Nadia Mushtaq. Amina, who was kidnapped by a Faisalabad-based couple months ago and was later recovered by Sindh/Punjab police, informed the court that She did not meet with Nadia Mushtaq during her captivity at a house in Sakrand village, Nawabshah district. I neither lodged FIR with Airport Police Station nor forwarded an application to Chief Minister Punjab and SSP Operation Rawalpindi to seek help for those families victimised by the kidnappers since long, Amina informed the bench. The Chief Justice referred the matter of FIR as well as application to the District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi and ordered the lower court to probe the matter. The bench also expressed annoyance over the performance of Rawalpindi police for not recovering Nadia Mushtaq. Meanwhile, the court directed CPO Rao Iqbal to pursue the matter regarding application and FIR to District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi. Earlier, CPO informed the court that Rawalpindi district police had adopted every possible mean and measure to have some clue about Nadia but could not succeed so far. The district police, he said, succeeded in recovering Salma from clutches of the accused from Mari Jalbani area in Nawabshah district. The court was informed that Inspector Muhammad Anwar had left for Nawabshah district, where several abducted girls from Punjab had reportedly been sold, particularly in kacha area of Indus River. He was directed to find clues about Nadia Mushtaq. DPO Rawalpidni will also investigate the matter and submit report within two-week time before the court. Earlier, RPO Aslam Tarin informed the court that Nadia Mushtaq was in custody of a Sindhi abductor.
