India claims top Al Badr militant, jawan killed in IHK encounter

A key Al Badr militant and a jawan were killed in an encounter between security forces and ultras in Baramulla district on Wednesday. The encounter broke out last evening when militants hiding in a house opened fire on the security forces during search and cordon operation in Amargarh village, official sources said. After initial exchange of fire between the two sides, the operation was suspended. At dawn, security forces resumed the operation and killed the lone militant hiding in the house, the sources said. He was identified as Abu Hamza. In the exchange of fire, a jawan of 52 Rashtriya Rifles Sohan Singh was killed while another jawan was injured, the sources said. In another encounter that also broke out on Tuesday at village Bakihara in Handrawa area of Kupwara district, an unidentified militant was killed while two securitymen were injured on Wednesday, the sources said. The operation is still on.
