Kala Dhaka given status of district

ISLAMABAD - Marking regularisation of Kala Dhaka from the tribal areas to district status as beginning of bringing tribes into mainstream society, President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday reaffirmed resolve to amend centuries-old Frontier Crime Regulations. The President said that the government was committed to bringing the far-flung areas of the country into the mainstream of national life. For this, he added, the government has decided on reforms in tribal areas that included application of Political Parties Act to the tribal areas and suitable amendments to the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) in accordance with the wishes of the people of tribal areas. These decisions would be implemented as soon as the security situations in the tribal areas improve, the President hoped. Addressing a signing ceremony of changing the status of Kala Dhaka of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from a Provincially Administered Tribal Area (PATA) to that of a settled area the President congratulated the people of newly established district. Democracy is all about honouring the wishes of the people, he added. If the people of Kala Dhaka want to change the status of their area for attracting better facilities they have every right to demand and be given the new status, he said. The President while commenting on the problems faced by the country said that challenges were so huge that no single party or any single institution could solve on their own. We can best resolve our problems through collective action that is based on consensus. This is the political philosophy of the PPP and this is what we will pursue. According to the Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar, the President urged both the federal and provincial governments to take special interest in the uplift and development of Kala Dhaka. The President desired a special development package for Kala Dhaka. The President expressed the hope that the federal government would help the provincial government in the implementation of a special package for the area and that Kala Dhaka would no longer remain a less developed area and would soon become the advanced and developed part of the province.
