Nawaz for political solution

QUETTA While expressing serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan, PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has stressed that Balochistan issue should be resolved through political means. 'Bullet or force cannot resolve the issues and until and unless Balochistan issue is resolved, peace is not possible in the country, he added. Nawaz expressed these views while addressing a crowded news conference during his one-day visit to Quetta on Saturday. Opposition leader in National Assembly Ch Nisar Ali Khan, General (r) Abdul Qadir Baloch, Balochistan provincial ministers Mir Sanaullah Zehri and Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, Jangez Marri, Sardar Yaqoob Khan Nasir, Khuda-i-Noor and other PML-N leaders were also present on the occasion. Nawaz said the entire country was concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan and it was the prime responsibility of the government to evolve a comprehensive strategy to bring peace and resolve all issues politically. Criticising former regime of Pervez Musharraf, he said: 'The former dictator launched massive military drive in Balochistan and assassinated Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti which further aggravated the wounds of Baloch people. Commenting over the recent statement of Pervez Musharraf regarding Balochistan, PML-N Quaid said that it was very disappointing that Musharraf said that he would again commit the same crimes (killing Nawab Bugti) if he got another opportunity to lead the country. 'Musharrafs statement amounted to rub salt on the wounds of Baloch people, he added. He said that dictators had caused great losses to the country and democracy during past 60 years, adding that the development growth rate in neighbouring country is very high as compared to Pakistan because democracy has flourished there. 'If there was rule of law in the country, it would had made much development today, as when PML-N was ruling, the growth rate of development of the country was 10 per cent which was surprising for the neighbouring countries, he added. He said that the then US President Bill Clinton offered him not to conduct nuclear tests and in return US would provide 5 billion dollars to him. 'I rejected the offer because money is not everything, Nawaz said. He said that after achieving nuclear power the country was rapidly progressing and it had created a good reputation among the world community. However, he said that after interference of dictator in Kargil, Pakistan suffered huge losses and it became alone in the comity of nations. Mian Nawaz Sharif said that nowadays the country was passing through critical situation and there were external and internal threats all around it, therefore, the rulers should solve issues amicably. To a query, he said that Balochistan issue was not tackled politically and it was the outcome of wrong policies of the dictator and incumbent government due to which it was burning. 'Bodies were recovered on Eid day, target killings is continuing and people are migrating to other provinces while locals are taking up guns for their rights in Balochistan which is the result of wrong policies of Musharraf, Nawaz added. He said that poverty and lawlessness has engulfed the whole country while government was further imposing taxes on poor people instead of adopting austerity and cutting its unnecessary expenditures. Referring to the economic situation of the country, he said that government should cut down its expenditures and stop imposing new taxes on the poor people of the country. 'We should adopt austerity and reduce our expenditure and we do not need to seek loans from IMF and donations from Western countries, he added. He said that financial irregularities during Haj was shameful while government instead of accepting its mistake is blaming Pakistans most brotherly country Saudi Arabia. Nawaz further said that he had written a letter to President Asif Ali Zardari and had given him proposals to bring a change in the country and solve the problems of the masses otherwise the situation of the country would be more complicated in the coming days. Responding to a question about the killing of missing persons in Balochistan, he said that his party had always raised Balochistans issue at every platform including National Assembly and believed that problems of Balochistan should be solved through political means. 'Bullet and force cannot solve the Balochistan issue and through politics we can bring disgruntled Baloch brothers to the mainstream of national politics, he said. Nawaz said that drone attacks were against the sovereignty of the country and PML-N outrightly condemns them and demands that it should be stopped forthwith. Earlier, addressing the partys Provincial Organising Committee meeting, Nawaz said that there was no room in PML-N for those who wanted to create rift in the party ranks and, added that if there was any supporter of Musharraf in PML-N he would be expelled from the party. He said that the country was passing through hard times as Karachi was burning and drone attacks were continuing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while in Balochistan Baloch people and settlers were being targeted. We all should play our role and steer out the country from all crisis, he urged. He said that the sense of deprivation among the people of Balochistan should be removed and they should be given their rights. 'Country was in worst situation and all would have to play their due role for the security of the country, he stressed. Nawaz said that he was personally visiting Balochistan to hear the grievances of the party workers, adding, that all committed party workers and leaders were very dear to him. He said that we should like to be called Pakistani rather than Balochi, Punjabi, Seraiki and Pakhtun. Nawaz urged party members to put an end to mutual differences and strengthen the party in the province. He urged upon the party workers to maintain discipline in the party and avoid blaming each other. 'PML-N will not accept those who create differences in the party, he said, adding that PML-N was committed to bring a positive change not only in Balochistan but also in Pakistan. During the meeting differences in the party in Balochistan also came to surface when supporters of Yaqoob Khan Nasir chanted slogans in his favour while his opponents also chanted slogan in favour of their favourite in provincial leadership. This situation created uproar in the meeting upon which Nawaz Sharif expressed his resentment.
