ISLAMABAD - In a blatant violation of the prescribed official rules and procedures, the government gurus are set to send OGRA chief Tauqeer Sadiq packing, to be replaced by a mighty babu, former petroleum secretary Mehmood Salim Me-hmood, allegedly to benefit an LPG mogul, TheNation learnt. The government gurus while leaving no stone untoward are all set to relieve Tauqeer by proposing the appointment of Mahmood Saleem as new chief only to benefit the LPG tycoon who is involved in cartelisation in the LPG sector, the sources said, adding that LPG business tycoon had played pivotal role to convince the government gurus to build pressure to get rod of Tauqeer Sadiq as OGRA chief. They all were of the view that the OGRA chief had deprived LPG mafia of granting more and more quota, licences on their will and wish and had even imposed hefty fines and penalties on LPG business tycoons marketing companies. As earlier the govt removed top slot of oil and gas sector, the same formula is being proposed to be implemented in OGRA very soon by removing the existing chief Tauqeer Sadiq, the sources said. The OGRA ordinance 2002 reads, The Chairman shall be appointed by the Federal Govt for an initial term of four years and shall be eligible for reappointment for a similar term. The Chairman shall retire on attaining the age of sixty-five years. Any member may resign from his office by writing under his hand addressed to the Federal Govt. The Federal Government may remove from his office, on an inquiry by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), he is found unable, to perform the functions of his office due to mental or physical disability, or to have committed misconduct. A certain influential lobby backed by an LPG tycoon, which also remained involved in land related disputes as grabbing millions from the innocent citizens of the country e.g. E-11 and F-17 societies cases where people were deceived and these affectees had lodged police cases against them was all set to get removal of the chairman OGRA who had declined to favour LPG tycoon and influential lobby, the sources maintained.
