LAHORE - Pakistan Bar Council, the lawyers apex body, has sought proposals from its members on proposed Constitutional package drafted by PPP. The proposals would be taken into consideration in next meeting of PBC and after developing a consensus among its member they would be forwarded to the govt. PBC, however, made it clear that no lawyers body other than PBC would be authorised to take any decision regarding lawyers movement on national level. The lawyers protest against the removal of judges would continue as per schedule. The weekly rallies and hunger strike camps would be held as per earlier decisions of PBC. This was stated by PBC Vice Chairman Said-ur-Rehman after chairing Council's meeting that was attended by 15 members out of total 22. He said the copy of the Constitutional package was provided to the Council a day before the meeting , therefore , it was decided that discussion on it would be taken place in the next meeting after seeking proposals from all members. It is pertinent to mention here that seven members of the PBC including it VC called on Federal Law Minister Farooq H. Naek on Friday who handed over the copy of proposed package to them. The Minister also announced to give grant of Rs. 50 million to PBC. Rehman said the Constitutional package drafted by PPP is mere a proposal and not a final document. Changes could be made in it following the recommendation of PBC members, he added. Answering to a question, he said the lawyers might propose that the judges should be restored through an executive order. He said the grant of Rs.50 million had no connection with lawyers movement. It was the right of PBC. He said the grant was given to the Bar Councils on regular basis in the era of democratic govts but it had been withheld since 1998. Responding to another question, he said PBC next meeting would be convened soon to evolve the next line of action regarding lawyers movement. He, however, made it clear no other lawyers body had the authority to take a decision about lawyers movement. The PBC also approved the annual budget in the meeting. Besides PBC VC Chairman, Amdad Ali Awan, Raja Shafqat Abbasi, Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari, Kazim Khan, Hamid Khan, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Dr. Khalid Ranjha, Pervaiz Inayat Malik, Asharaf Wahla, Mirza Aziz Akbar Baig,Mian Asrar ul Haq, Abdul Hakim Kundi, Rashid A Rizvi, and Ramzan Chaudhry also attended the meeting.
