Abida Parveen recovering from cardiac arrest

LAHORE - Renowned folk and ghazal singer Abida Parveen has undergone angioplasty at a hospital in Lahore. Doctors said Abida Parveen was out of danger after successful angioplasty on Sunday. Abida suffered a mild cardiac arrest while performing at a musical concert on Saturday night. She was rushed to a local hospital where doctors performed angioplasty on her artery to remove a block. The doctors said she was improving and will be discharged from the hospital after two or three days. Abida Parveen was born in 1954 at Larkana in Sindh. She received her musical training from her father Ustad Ghulam Haider and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan of the Sham Chorasia Gharana. Abida Parveen started her career from Radio Pakistan, Hyderabad, in 1973. She was awarded Pride of Performance in 1982 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2005. Agencies add: The 56-year-old ghazal maestro, who lives in Karachi, was visiting Lahore for a performance when she complained of chest pain and was immediately rushed to Doctors Hospital. After performing some initial tests, the doctors immediately recommended angiography and angioplasty that was done Sunday. Abida is still under observation in the intensive-care unit (ICU), a doctor was quoted as saying by a private TV channel. Her close family friend Najeeb Sultan, while talking to the media, said Her condition is now out of danger and requested the fans to pray for her early recovery. Doctor Sarwar, who is treating Abida Parveen, said: She is recovering well and is likely to be discharged from the hospital in four-five days. There is absolutely no danger of her not being able to sing after this operation. She can perform very much like before after recovering completely.
