Pakistan committed to root out terrorism, militancy: Jamali

Deputy Chairman Senate Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali said that terrorism is a global threat and the only panacea to freedom and democracy is to defeat terrorism and root out militancy.He expressed these views while addressing fourth India and Asia Regions Common Wealth Parliamentary Association Conference at Raipur in India, said a message received from India.He said that Pakistan itself is the victim of terrorism and is at the forefront in the struggle against militancy. Our sacrifices have been acknowledged by the world community, he added.He said that Pakistan condemns and denounces terrorism in all its forms and manifestations as it is a crime against humanity having no association with any religion, culture or geography.Deputy Chairman observed that the threat is a global one and international cooperation and mutual support was required to achieve the desired objective. Jamali stated that Pakistan remains mindful of the threat posed by terrorism to its security as well as the importance of promoting peace at regional and global level and said that Pakistan will continue to take robust action against militants to defeat the scourge. He also underlined the need for making institutions more transparent, democratic and effective in combating the threat. A vibrant civil society can play a key role in protecting local communities, countering extremist ideologies and dealing with political violence Jamali said. Later, Senator Dr. Abdul Kbaliq Pirzada also delivered speech on Food Security and Cooperation at Regional Level. He said that Pakistan fully supports regional initiatives to enhance food security in the region as South Asia is faced with enormous challenges of poverty malnutrition and socio-economic backwardness. He also referred to the 14th, I5th and 16th SAARC submits which emphasized the need for a collective action against the challenges related to food security and poverty. He said that Pakistan remained supportive in efforts towards an early operationalization of the SAARC Food Bank which would be helpful in responding to the mounting problem of food shortages in the region. He expressed the hope that deliberations made at the conference would help the member states to take appropriate steps to tackle the issue. It is pertinent to mention here that Deputy Chairman Senate Mir Jam Muhammad Khan Jamali is heading five-member delegation to participate in the 4th India and Asia Regions Common Wealth Parliamentary Associations Conference, Raipur, India. Other members of the delegation include Senator Dr. Abdul Khaliq Pirzada, Ms. Sherry Rehman MNA, Nazir Ahmed Bughio MNA and Iftikharullah Babar Special Secretary Senate. D
