Altaf Hussain hospitalised in London

LONDON (Agencies) - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has been getting treatment in hospital for the last one week. According to partys coordination committee here on Monday, Altaf Hussain has not been feeling well for the past one week and has been in a London hospital. However, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, when asked about it at a news conference, only said Altaf had medical check-up at a hospital. President Asif Ali Zardari and Rehman Malik have sent him bouquets of flowers. Meanwhile, British High Commissioner Adam Thompson talking to media men in Islamabad said on Monday that the UK government had put no restriction on the movements of Altaf Hussain. About Altafs letter to Tony Blair, Thompsin said he did not know anything about that letter and MQM chief should be asked for that. He also expressed his ignorance about MQM leader Nasreen Jalils letter to British government. He said all rumours relating to arrest of MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain and curbing his movements to travel abroad, were baseless and false. He also clarified that Altaf was not detained in England. He said investigations were underway regarding murder of MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq. Recently, a series of rumours emerged about the MQM chiefs health, alleged disappearance, as well as viral online rumours of Altafs alleged escape to South Africa for security reasons.
