Sindh seeks transfer of money recovered by NAB

KARACHI - The provincial government has asked the federal government to hand over the misappropriated money that was later recovered by the National Accountability Bureau in Sindh, sources told The Nation on Monday. The amount recovered by the NAB from corrupt bureaucrats, politicians and others in Sindh run is worth billions of rupees, said sources. The Sindh govt has urged the centre to hand over that money recovered through bargaining pleas by the National Accountability Bureau, Sindh, on priority basis. Inter-Provincial Coordination Department of Sindh has dispatched a set of demands to the Federal Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, seeking redressal of the controversial issues, a senior official disclosed. He said the Inter-Provincial Coordination Department has also demanded that these issues must be taken up in its next meeting. "The provincial government has requested the money recovered by the NAB form bureaucrats, politicians and other influential people in Sindh belonged to people of this province therefore it must be returned to them", the official told. However, he did not disclose the total amount recovered from corrupt politicians and bureaucrats of the province but pointed out that it runs into billions of rupees. It may be noted here that NAB Sindh office was established in MPAs Hostel and it continued working there till the general elections in 2002. Despite repeated demands of provincial government, the NAB did not bother to pay the rent of the hostel for two years. The official further confirmed that Inter-Provincial Coordination Department has also asked the centre to hand over GST on Services to Sindh because it is a provincial issue.
