Fazl again ducks govts move

ISLAMABAD - Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, left for Saudi Arab to perform Umra on Wednesday afternoon, leaving behind the things in political arena boiling and in utter confusion. Ahead of his departure, a number of people from government side and FATA MPs delegation met him separately but all of them failed to change Maulanas mind and he stood like a rock on his earlier decision of sitting on the opposition benches unless and until the visible changes in the incumbent political dispensation were made. Sources in JUI-F informed The Nation that Maulana Fazlur Rehman was firm on his demand for removal of the Prime Minister as he thought that Premier Gilani was responsible for the lousy handling of the coalition government and he (Gilani) was the man who had sabotaged the policy of reconciliation adopted by the President. The sources further said that during the separate meetings, Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik, Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms Senator Mian Raza Rabbani and FATA delegation led by MNA Munir Khan Orakzai urged Maulana Fazlur Rehman to stop demanding removal of Prime Minister Gilani as it would further aggravate the already worse political crisis. These sources further said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he was firm on his decision and had uttered what he thought was right and would not take back his decision to sit on opposition benches. He further said that he had time and again took up the matter of being ignored in decision-making at government level with President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani and when he saw that his partys concerns as coalition partner were ignored, they were left with no choice but to honourably bow out from the alliance. He made it clear to the government emissaries that ball was in the court of Pakistan Peoples Party and it was up to the Co-Chairman of the party President Asif Ali Zardari how he wanted to run the coalition government keeping them along or manage things with some new political partners in his fold. He made it loud and clear that JUI-F would not take back its decision unless the Government would introduce visible changes in its governance mode and attitude towards the junior coalition partners. Although all the emissaries could not bring Maulana round but still the Pakistan Peoples Party was optimistic about winning back the JUI-Fs support. The sources in the PPP informed that PPP Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari had held a detailed meeting with his core group and it was decided in the meeting that a major surgery would be required within the party to bring the things back on track both within the party and with the coalition partners. A central leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party informed The Nation on condition of anonymity that President Zardari would be taking some vital decisions in the days to come as it was the only way to keep the coalition government intact.
