RAWALPINDI The defence counsel of former CPO Saud Aziz Wednesday said the joint investigation team (JIT) did not insert the statement of the then SSP Operations Yasin Farooq in the challan in which he had cautioned late Benazir Bhuttos security in-charge Rehman Malik and security officer Maj (r) Imtiaz to refrain her from exposing herself, which she did before entering Liaquat Bagh, from the hatch of bullet-proof vehicle after the public gathering as it might be dangerous for her. The statement should be included in the challan by JIT, defence counsel demanded. Earlier, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi, (ATC-III), sent the former police chief of Rawalpindi Syed Saud Aziz and former SP Rawal Town Khurram Shahzad to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand after setting aside the Federal Investigation Agencys request to extend their physical remand for nine more days in Benazir Bhuttos murder case. The court also issued show-cause notice to FIA Assistant Director Asghar Jatoi on account of writing a letter to Interior Ministry mentioning in it that the court ordered the agency to investigate ISI and MI officers in BBs murder case. However, the FIA officer immediately tendered his apology with the court. The FIA had presented two former top cops before the court of Rana Nisar Ali Khan. After the proceeding, defence counsel Malik Waheed Anjum held a press conference at his chamber and said his client did not commit any negligence at the time of the blast. He said, Now it is time to expose the real culprits behind the killing of BB. He said that the mobile phone of BB, which she had at the time of gun and bomb attack, should be found by the JIT adding that the post-mortem of any dead person could not be conducted without the prior permission of his/her heirs. Same happened with the case of BB as her spouse Asif Ali Zardari did not allow the doctors autopsy. Despite the fact, Waheed said, his client Syed Saud Aziz in his capacity as CPO not only asked the doctors to perform her external post-mortem but also sent a letter to the IG Punjab who later wrote a letter to the IG Sindh requesting him to do autopsy of BB before burial. But it was not done, he regretted. He said there was no hatch in the roof of BBs bombproof vehicle at the time of import but it was altered in Pakistan. He added that the hatch could not be opened by single person, saying, Those who were sitting around BB should be quizzed as to why and who opened the hatch of the vehicle. Waheed was of the view that the though the prosecution levelled allegations regarding hosing down the crime scene and collection of evidences against his client yet it did not explain what type of evidences had not been gathered from crime scene, he questioned. He said Saud Aziz had gathered at least 29 evidences from the crime scene, including the body parts of suicide bomber, pistol used by the killer at the time of firing at BB, the blood spotted soil and some bullet shells. While recalling some terrorism incidents occurred in the past, Waheed said the crime scenes of Karzaz blasts in Karachi and a suicide attack on Army Surgeon General Mushtaq were washed away by the rescuers and law enforces one hour after the tragedies. To hose down crime scene was not a big thing, he maintained. The defence counsel was of the view that the initial investigation into BBs murder case was carried out by his client besides tracing and capturing five alleged killers of BB. He (former CPO) also made more than 300 photographs of BBs assassination site, the counsel said.
