KHAR At least five militants were killed and seven others got injured in shelling by security forces gunship helicopters in Mohmand area of Tehsil Salarzai on Saturday. According to the local residents, two gunship helicopters appeared over the mountain of Mohmand Agency coming from Peshawar, and started shelling on several villages of Salarzai, situated at around 12km distance in South-West of Khar, Capital of Bajaur Agency. According to eyewitnesses, the choppers shelled for about an hour in which five militants were killed and seven others got injured. In Bajaur Agency, it was for the first time during the last three months, that helicopters took part in shelling. The local people said that in Mandal area the security forces helicopters targeted hideouts of the suspected militants in several villages including Markhanai, Top, and Shamsi. The alleged militants were targeted while they were shifting to safer places. The dead bodies of the militants were seen in the fields. The political Administration and security forces also claimed of targeting five militants in the shelling. The local administration had already given deadline to the militants to leave the area but the local people failed to expel them from the area. The shelling spread scare among the local persons, while the main road remained block for all kind of traffic.
