S: My cousin just got rejected from an American scholarship. Poor thing. He had all the admissions in his hand, but now cannot go because of money. Funding really is a drag. Wouldn’t it have been awesome if money did indeed grow on trees?
A: Oh. That is sad. But it is okay. They are lots of universities in our own country that are just as good. We seem to have forgotten why education is important. Not because of the name of the university, but because of what we learn there. It’s a shame that so much money is invested outside of Pakistan.
S: Oh come on Ameen. You really cannot ring this argument and say that the education standard is the same. There might be a few universities that are good. But it would be ludicrous to say that we can survive the global market with just this. What is really wrong in spending on education? I feel it is the biggest investment one can have, something that never goes to waste. Except you know, if you actually waste it yourself.
A: I just feel that it has just become a trend to go abroad, spend a hefty amount of money, and then come back and complain through the same jobs that everybody else has. Plus, they probably had to survive on processed noodles and coffee over there. I just cannot give up my shami kebabs. Just can’t.
