ISLAMABAD: Pakistan higher education system failed to make an impact on Asia’s top university ranking, as none of the Pakistani university made it to the top 100 universities in Asia, as per latest rankings.
This was revealed as per the rankings released by the global higher education analysts, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), in its QS University Rankings: Asia report for 2016.
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) was the top ranking university from Pakistan, which was placed at 111th position, moving up by 50 places or 5-band leap up the rankings. National University of Science and Technology (NUST) followed, placing at 112th position moving up 7 places.
But it was bad news for the Quaid-i-Azam University, which has fallen from 116th in 2015 to joint 149th position.
The National University of Singapore (NUS) continued to dominate, and was the top ranked Asian university, second year in a row, followed by University of Hong Kong placed firmly at the second spot. The universities from the East Asia region made up the top 10 university.
The QS rankings have expanded from 300 universities last year, to include 350 best universities in Asia. Their methodology use by QS consist of nine indicators i.e. academic reputation (30pc), employer reputation (20pc), faculty student ratio (15pc), papers per faculty (10pc), citations per paper (10pc), staff with a PhD (5pc), proportion of international faculty (2.5pc), proportion of international students (2.5pc), proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5pc), and proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5pc).
