Peshawar Golf Club bids adieu to outgoing president

PESHAWAR (APP) In order to pay tribute to the services of Lt. General Muhammad Masood Aslam HI, HI (M), SJ, for the promotion of golf, the Golfing-out match was held here at lush green 6666-yard Peshawar Golf Course on Wednesday. The occasion was graced by NWFP Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah, Senior Vice President Frontier Golf Association (FGA) Air Vice Marshal Sohail Gul Khan, Vice President Brig. Muzaffaar Ali Khan SI (M), former national team skipper Mehmood Aziz, Secretary FGA Major Arshad Mahmood and other top brass and civil officials, players and spectators. Lt General Masood Aslam, the out going President is retiring after the completion of his meritorious services, he rendered for Pakistan Army. Lt General Asif Yasin would be the new President FGA. Despite worst law and order situation in NWFP, Gen. Masood was always keen in the promotion of golf. He consistantly supported holding of golf tournaments the year round. During his tenure, the First Corps Commander Golf Championship was held in June 2008 while ground work is in process for the next, which will be held here. General Masood has been a keen golfer and often played golf daily, despite his busy professional schedule. He always provided guidance and took keen interest in golf promotion. During his tenure Dera Ismail Khan Golf Club has been commissioned, which affiliated with FGA and PGF later. The other is the Piffer and Country Club at Abbottabad which has been upgraded to 18 holes from nine holes. In tense law and order situation the Commander encouraged the golf events of PGF calendar including Frontier Open and Frontier Amateur respectively whereas all other events in the country were cancelled. Lt. Gen. Masood Aslam thanked golfers for giving him farewell. He there is need for more work in golf as NWFP produced prominent golfers in the past. NWFP Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah on this occasion lauded Lt. Gen. Masood Aslam for his role in bringing peace to NWFP and Peshawar. He also promised that on govt level more steps would be taken for the promotion of golf in the province. Earlier, nine-holes golfing out match was also played with Lt. Gen. Muhammad Masood Aslam have his flight with Major General Rashad Javed, AVM Sohail Gul Khan, Brig Muzaffar. In 0-12 HCP Major Shoaib got first on his gross score 37, followed by Arbab Usman (38), Ahmad Jamshed (40) while in Net Col. Abid, Ardil Sher and Razaullah got the honor. In 13-18 HCP Brig, Zulfiqar Ali got first, Bakhtiar Gul second and Salman third prizes, while in Net Col, Khalid Khan, Brig. Amir Qazi and Major Shehzad Ibrahim took first, second and third prizes respectively. In Veterans gross Sqn Idrees got first position, followed by Col. (R) Tariq Bangash and Col. Shahdat Hussain while in Net Major Haider Zaman took first, Brig. Akhar second and Zahir Shah grabbed third prize. Chief guest Lt. Gen. Masood Aslam gave away trophies to the position holders. Provincial Minister Aqil Shah presented a shield to General Masood Aslam on behalf of FGA.
