OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Islamabad beat Azad Jammu Kashmir by seven runs to clinch the final trophy of the PBCC Twenty20 Cricket Championship played at Dring Stadium Bahawalpur, says a press release issued here on Saturday. Azad Kashmir won the toss and put Islamabad to bat first. The openers of Islamabad played brilliantly well and their first wicket fell at the score of 140 runs when Muzaffar (54) was bowled by Munawar Asif. Anees Javeed also played a brisk innings of 79 runs. Islamabad posted 228 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Munawar Asif and Nisar got one wicket each. AJK, in reply, started made a solid start. Their 1st wicket fell at the score 70 runs in 7th over when Munawar Asif was bowled by Usama. But the in-form batsman M Jameel kept playing shots. At one stage AJK was well in front but their two wickets fell in one over which change the course of the game. M Jameel ran himself out after scoring 87 runs and on the next ball M Idrees was stumped without opening his account. Irfan Majeed and Nisar Ali tried hard to bring their team home but Islamabad kept the screws tight with good bowling and wonderful fielding. AJK eventually fell seven runs short of the target. AJK scored 221 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. M Jammel was the top scorer with 87 runs while Irfan Majeed scored 59 runs. Usama and Mudassar shared one wicket each. Anees Javeed was the man of the match. M Waseem (Karachi) was adjudged man of the series in B1 category, Masood Jan (Peshawar) in B2 category and M Jameel (Azad Kashmir) in B3 category. Senator M Ali Durrani was the chief guest on the occasion and distributed prizes amongst the players.
