ISLAMABAD - Sensational cyclist Touseef-ul-Hassan had helped Pakistan won more gold medals in Special Olympics World Games 2015 being held at Los Angles, USA.
Pakistan's Special Olympians created history by winning as many as four more gold medals in 5 & 2 kilometres road races, day before Touseef opened the cycling account with a gold in 10 Km and now he added another gold in five kilometre to his credit and then a marathon of unstoppable victories continued in 200 Kilometre races for national special Olympians where Uzma Yousuf, Salman Saeed Siddiqui and Sumbal Yousaf added gold to their and Pakistan's credit. Mehmoona was only athlete who came out empty handed and finished 6th in 2km road race among all cyclists.
Touseef's time was 11:10:49 in 5km road race followed by Albaloushi Moosa of UAE & Calmes of Philippines, who won silver and bronze medals respectively.
Special Olympian Ume Salma Tayyab won gold in badminton. Playing in Group 5 she brushed aside Palestinian player in straight sets in final. Ume Salma won 21-18, 21-12. M Mustaneer is the coach of these players and he worked so hard on them during last eight months and also hopeful of another medal in mix doubles event.
In table tennis doubles event Pakistan beat Iran 3-0, lost to Chinese Taipei 2-3 and beat Belarus 3-1. Pakistan sent 4 boys and four girls for the athletic events of the game. Arshad Javed supervised their coaching and was assisted by Irfana Javed. Out of these eight players six were having their competitions on Saturday. Amina Irshad competing in division 6 won silver with 2.63 metre jump in long jump event. Gold went to Hidvegi Amanda of Sweden.
Nadir Hussain also bagged Silver in 100-metre race in Division 49. His time was 1.52m. Nayab Bibi won bronze in 200 metres race in the Division 1. Her timing was 00:38:53. Hydees Jazlyl of Island won gold and Herman Kurshel of St Lucia won bronze medal. M Saqib Waseem finished 4th in 100 metres, Amina Irshad 7th in 200 metres and Saira Ikram 5th in 200 metre race. Pakistan made significant progress, while playing third & fourth position match in male football and earned bronze medal. It was first ever by Pakistan soccer players in world Games history as they beat Nippon 5-3 in an interesting encounter.
Pakistani players were also not behind in basketball (traditional) as they grabbed silver. In the last match they beat Poland 20-17. Farha Vohra grabbed 7th position in the 25 metres race in swimming competition. Only relay of 4x25 metres is left in swimming competitions, which will held today.
Pakistan have so far managed to win whopping 26 medals in the Games.
