Sweet Homes win School Girls Cricket Cup

ISLAMABAD - Thanks to sensational batting display by Shabnum, Pakistan Sweet Homes cricket team won the inaugural First School Girls Cricket Cup 2016, defeating Mashal School by massive 83 runs in the final played here at Margahzar Cricket ground on Sunday. Pakistan Cricket Board and Australian High Commission organised the tournament in collaboration with Serena Hotels, in which 4 schools of the capital took part. Sweet Homes and Mashal School reached the final after defeating their respective opponents in the league matches.

Sweet Homes skipper won the toss and opted to bat first in the 10-over-a-side final, thanks to sensational batting display by Shabnum, who made breathtaking 77, consuming only 28 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and 4 sixes. Sweet Homes posted a highly daunting 162 for the loss of only two wickets in allotted 10 overs, while Zainab also batted well for her 45 runs knock.

Chasing a huge target, Mashal School was bundled out for 79 runs in 9.2 overs, Zainab captured 2 for 9. Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Margaret Adomson, Pakistan Sweet Homes Patron in chief Zumurad Khan, CEO Serena Hotels Pakistan Abdul Aziz Bolani and others were also present on the occasion, later Margaret Adomson distributed trophies and medals among the players and teams, Shabnum was named player of the final and tournament for her brilliant performances with the willow, Marya was named youngest player of the tournament, Gul Naz was declared best scorer of the tournament and Nadiya was declared best wicketkeeper.
