Pakistan women beat Kyrgyzstan

LAHORE Skipper Ushna Sohail led Pakistan to 2-1 victory over Kyrgyzstan in the opening pool league match of the eight-team Asia Oceania Group II Federation Cup tennis championship which began in Nonthubari(Thailand). According to information made available here Ushna Sohail won her singles and partnering with Sara Mahboob won the doubles to win the opening round match 2-1 which made national tennis ecstatic. Ms. Shahid Farooq, a long time friend of ladies tennis in Pakistan had always supported sending the team in the Federation Cup, praised the team for winning opener of the event. She said the victory ahs proved that Pakistani ladies were under rated before they played. Pakistan ladies in recent years have made improvement in their game and with the participation at international level the national standards could further go up, she added. The PTF officials also received the news of victory with satisfaction. In the first singles, Ushna Sohail outplayed Emilia Tenizbaeva of Kyrgyzstan in straight sets 6-1,6-1. In the second singles, Top seed of Kyrgyzstan Zhanilia Disheeva beat top seed of Pakistan Sarah Mahboob in straight sets 6-0,6-4 to level the tie score one all. In the deciding doubles, Ushna Sohail and Sarah Mahboob defeated Emilia Tenizbaeva/Zhanilia Duisheeva 6-4,6-2 and won the match by 2 matches to one. Other teams in pool A are Indonesia and Philippines.
