LAHORE - Lahore once again proved their worth by grabbing 17 gold medals in karate competitions, eight in boys’ karate final and nine in girls’ karate final in the Punjab Sports Festival final phase here on Friday at the various venues of the city.
In boys’ school karate competitions, Saweel Fayyaz of Lahore bagged gold in 48 kg category, Ali Mehmood of Lahore won gold medal in 55kg while Noman Gondal of Lahore won in +55kg. In boys' college karate event, Zafar Iqbal of Sahiwal won gold medal. In 48kg, M Hafeez of Lahore won gold in 55kg whereas in +55kg, Waqar Wakeel of Lahore grabbed gold. In the male university karate competitions, Waqas of Lahore earned gold in 48kg, Aize of Lahore clinched gold in 55kg whereas in +55kg, M Shahid of Lahore attained gold medal.
In the general public karate final, Ali Haider of Sahiwal won gold in 48kg, Baber Ali of Gujranwala achieved gold in 55kg while Adeel Afzal of Lahore won gold in +55kg. In the final girls’ karate events, Sumra Ikram of Lahore won gold in 45kg, Mehak of Lahore in 50kg and Bakhtawar of Lahore in +50kg. In the girls college karate, Afia of Lahore won gold in 45kg, Memoona Qadeer of Lahore secured gold in 50kg whereas Quratul Ain of Lahore in +50kg. In girls’ university karate, Madeeha of Lahore won gold in 45kg, Mariyam of Lahore earned gold in 50kg while Anza of Lahore in +50kg.
Inter University Football matches, Faisalabad beat Gujranwala 3-0, Sargodha defeated Sahiwal 4-0. In the basketball female college competitions, Lahore won the final by beating Faisalabad 41-14. In the cricket hardball matches, Lahore defeated Faisalabad by one run.
In the college hockey girls’ matches, Gujranwala beat Rawalpindi 2-1, Lahore thrashed DG Khan 5-0, Multan defeat Bahawalpur 3-0, Multan defeated Sargodha 5-0 while Faisalabad was given walkover against Sahiwal. In university girls’ hockey matches, Punjab and Sargodha were given walkovers against Rawalpindi and Multan. In the semi-final of college male hockey matches, Punjab College Sargodha defeated Punjab College Faisalabad 7-6 on penalty shoots. Gujranwala College beat Punjab College Lahore 3-2. In the semi-final of general public, Faisalabad beat Bahawalpur 2-1 and Lahore beat Gujranwala 6-5 on penalty shoots. In the volleyball college girls’ final matches, Faisalabad beat Rawalpindi 3-0 while Punjab University beat GCU 3-1.
