LAHORE - Wapda lifted the 28th National Women's Hockey Championship title for the fourth time in a row when they defeated Pakistan Railways 2-0 in the final at Hockey Club of Pakistan on Thursday.
According to information made available here on Thursday, Forward Marian Sabir netted the opener in 23rd minute and Ambreen Arshad blasted the second in 63rd minute to give Wapda resounding victory. In lackluster final, Wapda, enjoying the services of several internationals, dominated the match from the start to finish. In the third position playoff, Army hammered Punjab Colors 9-1. Shamshad Bashir blasted as many as five goals while Shaheen Malik netted two.
Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada was chief guest at the occasion and gave away the winning trophy to Wapda captain Amna Mir while Afshan Mumtaz received the runners-up trophy. Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Women Wing president Khushbakht Shujaat, Olympians Islahuddin Siddiqui, Iftikhar Syed, PHF secretary Rana Mujahid and other officials were also present on the occasion.
