PCB eliminates Afridi's fine

LAHORE The Pakistan Cricket Board Thursday withdrew the Rs three million fine which it had slapped on captain Shahid Afridi for the ball-biting incident in Perth while the Akmal brothers - Kamran and Umer - got their penalties halved. PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt said that the fine on Afridi was removed after consulting with the International Cricket Council (ICC). We had sought clarification from the ICC on the Afridi case and have decided to end his fine, Butt said. He said since Afridi had been banned for two matches by the ICC for his ball-tampering incident in Australia early this year, the PCB decided it shouldnt penalise him for the same offence twice. That is why we have lifted the fine from him while the fines on Kamran and Umer have been reduced on the advice of the appeals tribunal, he said. He added that Kamrans fine was now reduced to Rs 1.5 million from Rs three million and that of Umar Akmal from two million to one million rupees.
