Islamabad Falcons in Capital Cup Basketball semis

ISLAMABAD Islamabad Falcons will take on Rust while Hawks will meet Islamabad Rhinos in the semi-finals of the 4th Capital Cup Basketball Championship, said a press release issued by the organisers. In the final two quarter-finals played Tuesday evening at Sector I-8 courts, Hawks outplayed Jaguars 72-46 and Islamabad Rhinos had little difficulty in brushing aside 5-Stars 59-42. Hawks, one of the favourites for the title, were slow off the blocks but upped the tempo as the game progressed. Jaguars put up spirited fight in the first quarter, conceding just one-point lead at the end of the 10 minutes. But as Hawks came into their own in the second quarter, Jaguars had little answer to the onslaught. The winners, led by Haris Naseem, piled on the points with ease in the three quarters to put Jaguars under tremendous pressure. Haris was the best player for Hawks with a contribution of 19 points. Sohail Paul and Adnan Rana also had a good game for their 12 and 10 points respectively. Sikander Hayat led Jaguars challenge with 19 points. Junaid Ali added 10 and Johar Ali chipped in with eight points. Islamabad Rhinos completely outplayed 5-Stars in all departments of the game to earn a place in the semi-finals of the tournament being organised by the Islamabad Basketball Association. They led from start to finish and at no stage allowed 5-Stars to fight back into the match. Omer Khan was the top scorer for Islamabad Rhinos with 18 points. Ikram Khan and Murtaza Ali Shah contributed nine and eight points respectively. Shamil Gohar was the main player for 5-Stars with 14 points while Asif Awan and Mohsin Khan helped in with eight points each.
