ISLAMABAD - Islamabad Regional Cricket Association has honoured emerging cricket star Immad Wasim for his heroics in clinching Pakistan’s T20 series victory last week.
Wasim’s final over six sealed a thrilling win for Pakistan and thrust the 26-year-old all-rounder into the limelight.
Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahiddulah Khan, cricketer Sohail Tanvir, Islamabad Region president and member PCB governing board Shakil Sheikh and Rawalpindi Region head coach Sabih Azhar paid tribute to his performance in a ceremony at Islamabad’s Diamond Cricket Ground on Monday night.
Shakil Sheikh described him as the “complete cricketer” and said he had been a breath of fresh air since joining Pakistan’s national team. “He was leading player in the domestic circuit for the last several years both with willow and leather. He is very determined, I had never doubts about his abilities as a batsman, he always wanted to prove a point, especially when Hafeez was banned from bowling by ICC. We were in dire need of a quality all rounder, Immad not only can bowl but he can bat at any given number, I had told people, you have just witnessed his bowling let the time come, he will show his class with the bat too,” he said.
Sohail Tanvir, who was run out by Wasim on the last ball of the penultimate over, lauded his calm approach and said he never had any doubt that he would take the team home.
“Having played so long with Immad, I know we can debate on his talent, but no one could argue about his confidence and the way he likes to take challenges, I congratulate him and Islamabad and I hope a new star is born.”
Senator Mushahiddulah praised the all-rounder but warned him not to get carried away with this triumph and focus on winning more for the green caps.
Wasim said he had waited for this moment all of his career and now looking forward to bring consistency to his performances.
