Sajjad off to flying start


KARACHI - ANISUDDIN KHAN  - Pakistan’s celebrated international M Sajjad recorded a century break on the opening day of the seven-nation Jubilee Insurance Snooker when he defeated M Faisal Khan of India by four frames to two in his group league here on Sunday.
He exhibited marvellous potting in the fifth frame which he won by 103-20 for his 103 break. Pakistan is pinning hope on Sajjad to cross the first hurdle and reach the knock-out quarter final stage. He won 28-71, 79-18, 64-03, 05-89, (88), 103-20, (103), 66-14.
Other Pakistanis clinched fine wins were Naveen Perwani, who beat country-mate Sharjeel Mahmood 4-0 while Abdul Sattar beat Egyptian Yaser Ahmed 4-1.
Sultan Muhammad of Pakistan lost the opening league round match to M Ibrahim of Egypt 4-2. Habib Subah of Bahrain defeated Vishsin Gir of Pakistan 4-1.
UAE’s top star  M Al Joaker defeated  Sohail Shahzad (Pak) 4-0. As many as 20 players from seven countries including eight from Pakistan are taking part in the championship.
Current world champion Vafaei of Iran is favourite to win the event. An international snooker event is being held in Pakistan after a lapse of five years.
