Pakistan need to continue winning momentum: Mohsin Khan

ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head coach Mohsin Hassan Khan was full of praise for Pakistan cricket team and attributed green caps success to captain/head coach and players.

Talking to The Nation, Mohsin said: “Watching green caps in such mood is a wonderful surprise for not only me but also for those, who wanted to see Pakistan team produce these performances on regular basis. Pakistan team was missing that magical touch since long. I will give full credit to head coach Mickey Arthur, T20 skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and ODI skipper Azhar Ali for such marvelous victories against the West Indies.

“It was highly satisfactory performance shown by the green caps. Inflicting whitewash on World T20 champions West Indies was never easy, especially when they are on such a high, but Sarfraz and company, especially the young guns, showed a lot of maturity and proved that Pakistan is blessed with immense amount of talent and has potential to rule the world of cricket,” he added.

Mohsin said Pakistan did remarkably well in the T20 Internationals and simply outclassed the West Indies in all departments of the game with the only exception of fielding. “It was highly pathetic fielding and it was hard to believe that some players were dropping simple dolly catches, which could have cost Pakistan team dearly, but thankfully, no damaged was done and Pakistan came out with all cylinders blazing.”

He said he was pleading the case of highly multitalented Imad Wasim and Babar Azam for the last three years. “Both Imad and Babar are match-winners and can turn the entire complexion of the match single-handedly. Both were lacking the much-needed confidence, which was finally provided by Sarfraz and Mickey.

“I have same views for Anwar Ali, Bilawal Bhatti, Hammad Azam, Haris Sohail and Sohaib Maqsood, as they all are top class stuff and need proper guidance and buck up. They were treated as aliens, had proper opportunities provided to them, I can assure, they could have played match-winning roles. Each and every individual is one-man army and can play leading role in helping green caps scale down new heights,” he added.

Mohsin said green caps were at the brink of inflicting whitewash on the West Indies in the One-Day Internationals as well. “I am more than confident about Pakistan team’s abilities and they can impose 3-0 drubbing and brighten their chances of qualifying for the next years Champions Trophy in England. This 3-0 victory will mean a lot as direct qualification is on offer.

“I am highly disappointed and can’t understand why Asad Shafiq is given such a rash treatment. If provided with confidence, Asad could become a match-winner. It is high time when Azhar Ali must intervene and ensure a world class player like Asad should be in the playing XI, which can strengthen the middle order,” he added.  “I hope Azhar Ali will come all calendars blazing in the third ODI and inflict a whitewash on the West Indies after the third ODI as well. It seems the players and West Indies Board have some kind of issues, which is helping Pakistan team. Pakistan team must utilize this opportunity and deliver well to improve their rankings,” Mohsin concluded.
