Shahid maintains lead in Open Golf
 
 
 

PESHAWAR - Six-time National Champion and SAARC gold medalist international professional Shahid Javed Khan of Royal Palm Lahore and Shafique Masih were the second day leaders over 36 holes of the 54-holes National RMI Open Golf Championship being played here at PAF Golf Course on Saturday.
Shahid maintained his supremacy by increasing his opening day four strokes lead to six strokes over 36 holes and became the joint leader with Shafique, who was struggling at No. 6 on the first day round but staged a strong comeback by sharing top position with Shahid.
Shahid added 73, one over par to his overnight 65 by scoring a gross total of six under par 138 over 36-holes with 36, par, at front nine and 37, one over par, at back nine. Shahid scored one birdie at hole no 13 and missed a stroke in the hole no. 14 otherwise he hits almost all regulations.
Shafique was struggling on overall sixth on the first day but he jumped from sixth to top position by adding an excellent score of 69, three under par to his overnight 69. He carded 34, two under par at front nine and 35, one under at back nine to make a total of six under par 138 over 36 holes.
International golfer M Munir added 71, one under to his overnight 68, four under par by scoring a total of 139, five under par. Munir carded 36 and 35 at front and back nine with three birdies at hole no. 5, 11 and 12 and missed a stroke at hole no. 3 and 16. Talib Hussain of CDA Islamabad with his gross score 141, three under par by adding 73, one over par, to his overnight 68. Talib carded 38 and 35 at front and back nine with three birdies and made a single bogy at hole no. 3 besides double bogy at hole no. 9 par-4.
Latif Rafique, who was on second on the end of the first day round, slipped to 11th position as he added a poor 77, five over par, to his overnight 68. He scored one birdie and doubles bogy at hole no. 7 par-3 and hole no. 9, par 5 besides missing a stroke at 3, 5 and 10. M. Khurshid, M. Nazeer, Khalid Khan shared position on 141 score each, Matloob (142), Zahir Shah (143) and M. Tariq was on 144 were the other leading golfers. The final and prize distribution ceremony will be held on Sunday at 4:30pm.
