Englishmen dominate auction in IPL 2nd edition

A colourful auction has been seen in the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Goa on Friday. In all, 17 cricketers from various countries were bought by franchises at the IPL auction but English players were the centre of attraction at the auction. They left behind India's captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni. The most expensive cricketers at the auction were former England captains Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff. The Bangalore Royal Challengers bought Pietersen for $1,550,000 while his teammate Flintoff was bought at the same price by the Chennai Super Kings. Jean-Paul Duminy of South Africa was auctioned for $950,000 by the Mumbai Indians while Rajasthan Royals, partly owned by Indian actress Shilpa Shetty, created a stir when they picked up ageing South African Tyron Henderson for a whopping 650,000 dollars. The auction of Bangladesh's pace bowler Mashrafe Mortaza was also surprising as he was bought at a big price of $600,000 by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
